Care for Creation

God the Creator pronounced the world “very good” (Gen. 1:31) and gave humans the task to “till and keep” the Earth (Gen. 2:15) as stewards and caregivers rather than owners (Ps. 24:1).

According to scripture, God created Earth for mankind, and we are now stewards of His creation. This means it is our responsibility to look after and take care of this world. We should accept this responsibility and appreciate God's gift of creation for being our home. Our stewardship of creation involves the caretaking of the environment and animals as well as our families and communities.

We have made a commitment to the following actions:

The Building

  • Recycle all items the local recycling center accepts.

  • All consumable paper products are to be compostable or biodegradable.

  • Cleaning products are made from natural ingredients with a reusable spray bottle.

  • Installed programmable thermostats.

  • Updated the front entrance to a double door entryway.

  • We carefully conserve water, heat, and electricity.

  • Replaced basement windows with new energy efficient windows and shades.

The Pantry

  • Reusable shopping bags are offered to visitors, and they are encouraged to bring them each time they visit the pantry.

  • Ground beef is purchased from a local beef producer. It is processed locally and has less than a 25-mile carbon footprint.

  • Fresh vegetables come from a local farm and have less than a 15-mile carbon footprint

The Thrift Shop

  • All unsellable glass is taken to PVR for their glass program.

  • All electronics are taken to PVR for their e-waste program.

  • Unusable clothing is bagged up and sent to Billings Mt to larger thrift stores.

The Earth

  • We partnered with Powell Valley Recycling to fundraise for a glass crusher for their facility. There was demand from the public to recycle glass and we spearheaded the campaign successfully. So far, over 50 tons of glass has been diverted from local landfills. Customers come from all over the state to bring their glass instead of throwing it away.

  • Many trees in our area have reached their lifespan and need to be replaced. We partnered with Homesteader Roots, Planting for the Future. Their mission is to plant as many new trees as possible in the front yards of homes in the area.

  • We partnered with the local senior living facility to replace six 100-year-old cottonwood trees recently removed from their property. These trees were decomposing from the inside and were dangerous during windstorms. They will be replaced with dozens of new trees more suitable to our climate.
